Gold - a precious mineral that never loses its value...except maybe during the start of a pandemic.
At the beginning of the pandemic, I recall the first few videos I saw on social media about what was happening in China. The feeling was really daunting. I felt really sorry for all the people who could not go out and do any normal shopping for their families. How were these people coping?
Unfortunately, the pandemic reached our borders and also our homes. Everyone had to make serious changes to their normal way of living. People realised that our lives have been turned upside down. No one knew for how long.
It is strange how different people react in these situations. Most people complied with the changes and tried to make adjustments, while other people made the panic even worse with their behaviour. I am specifically talking about shopping behaviour. Straight away I realised that I needed to start doing online shopping, something I never liked doing before as I like to pick and choose my fresh fruit and vegetables. After what I saw online, I changed my way of thinking quickly. So did the nation. Then came a new set of unexpected challenges, including seemingly straightforward things like actually securing an online delivery slot!
That is when the' White Gold' showed its value... Do you know what I am talking about? I am talking about the humble paper we use every day, TOILET PAPER! Everyone was talking about it: buying it, where to buy it, the price... and then seeing this all manifest with some people's behaviour in the shops, when they got their hands on it... We even started counting how many squares we needed for certain things to make it last a bit longer. Who knew that the nation would be so concerned about toilet paper? I wonder how many rolls of horded toilet paper are still waiting to be used since the start of this pandemic...
How many rolls of 'White Gold' did you purchase?
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone working in all areas of online shopping and deliveries, for doing such an amazing job looking after us at home. Thank you!
We are all in this together. Always talk to at least one person when you are going through a difficult time.
