From Invisible to Empowered: How God Rewrote My Story

This week I had the opportunity to speak with Julie. Sometimes we think our lives are small, but we all are actually making a difference to so many more than we can even imagine.

Wise words from Julie...

For most of my adult life, I’ve worked as an actuary in the insurance world. It’s not exactly the stuff of movies—lots of spreadsheets, risk models, and quiet hours behind a desk. I was good at it (numbers have always made sense to me), but deep down, I couldn’t shake the feeling: Is this really making a difference?

I used to think being “good at math” was my defining trait. I wasn’t the life of the party. That was my sister—charming, effortless, always surrounded by people. I was the quiet one, the one who blended into the background. And after a while, I started to believe that was all I’d ever be.

But God had other plans.

A few years ago, I met a woman who would become a mentor—and a lifeline. She carried herself with this beautiful confidence that wasn’t loud or showy, just... grounded. Peaceful. I wanted that. She gently started showing me who I was in God's eyes: not forgotten, not small, but precious. Intentionally created. Deeply loved.

She shared a scripture that would become my anchor:

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13

I’d read it before, but this time, it hit differently. That verse started to seep into my heart and change the way I saw everything—especially myself.

I began doing the hard, holy work of growing my inner life. Not chasing outward validation, but learning to love the woman God made. The more I leaned into that identity, the more confident I became. Not because I was trying harder, but because I was finally seeing myself as God always had.

Here’s the amasing part: it started showing up in every area of my life.

I still work in insurance. I still spend a lot of time with numbers. But now, I see more. I see the people behind the policies. I see moments to speak life into coworkers. I see myself walking into each day knowing I belong—not because I’m loud or charming, but because I’m His.

If you’re reading this and you’ve ever felt overlooked, invisible, or like you’re “not enough”—please hear me when I say this:

You are marvellously made. You are not a mistake. You are already enough, right now, as you are.

God doesn’t just use the outgoing or the obvious. He uses the quiet ones too. The steady ones. The ones who never thought they had a voice.

I’m learning to speak up now. And I want to use my voice to remind others of the truth that changed everything for me:

You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
