My Covid Curves
Biggest change in my life since the first lockdown has been the weight I have gained, taking for granted all the walking I did before; running for the Underground, walking up and down steps, moving around the office. I love working from home, but I have put on a lot of weight. I am dreading going to back some kind of normality.
It has been difficult to see people falling ill or passing away and not being able to mourn them in a special way. When we come out of the lockdown and restrictions, it hit me that there are people that I won’t see again and I did not get to say good bye. This is challenging for me.
The biggest frustration for me since the first lockdown was not being able to see my nieces and nephews. When I did get to see them, I could only say hello from afar and talk to them from afar and play with them from afar. I use pick them up and spin them around. You can’t do that through video calls either.
My way of dealing with hardships have been to talk and open up to other people. I am definitely talking more, sharing more, praying more. I am generally a home-person any way and have enjoyed being at home, but sometimes I did get ridiculously bored. Interaction with people has really helped me.
Advice I would give myself if I could go back in time before the pandemic: “Make the most of this time at home and don’t forget to take your trainers out of your locker at work. They will come in really handy.”

Lockdown...
Lockdown: a word I do not like, but living on a farm in Essex made me maybe feel less closed in as others might have experienced during this time. The biggest challenge during this time, was not being able to go into town and have tea and cake with my mum. My pugs are like my kids, but I did miss spending time with my family.
I joined an online friendship app for the first time. It was really strange, as I did not know what to write about myself. I would rather write about someone other than myself.
The most difficult part of this year has been when my brother got Covid19 at the end of last year. He felt really guilty that he got ill, but as a delivery driver he had to work so many hours over time, he did not look after his health like he normally would. Before Covid19 my brother and I never really talked to each other. As we grew older we also grew apart. This scary experience has definitely brought us closer together as a family. We realise that we might not always agree on everything, but we do still love each other.
Advise I would give myself before the first lockdown…'stop watching the news, stock up on paint and canvases. Appreciate the time you have with your family.'
